Who are the Lincoln Secular Humanists?

The Lincoln Secular Humanists were formed in 2006 to give disbelievers, skeptics, and freethinkers in the community a venue to meet like-minded people. As I explained to Brian Ellis, now LSH Group Coordinator, what we really lose in being non-religious is the social support network of the church. That conversation proved to be our genesis, as it inspired us to hold public meetings starting in August 2006 with the aim of building a non-religious, social networking organization.

Social networking is still our primary function, but we also strive to educate the community. We offer a non-religious perspective, in an area where such voices are rarely heard. By getting published in local newspapers, or hosting showings of important documentaries like A Brief History of Disbelief, we are doing our part locally for the growing disbelief movement.

Above all, LSH is a grassroots organization built from scratch. We owe everything that we have accomplished to the hard work and imagination of our members. LSH has been a democratic organization from the beginning, and we are always interested in finding new voices.
